CAC Teachers' Bios


Julia Ball has an MA in Teaching and her art has appeared in the Baltimore City Paper, as well as on the cover of several editions of The Patchwork Players.

Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM) is MD’s premiere professional ballet company and maintains a faculty of 13 teachers in their School of Classical and Contemporary Dance.

John Bodkin is a painter with work in more than 160 private collections and formerly owned the American Contemporary Gallery in Annapolis. www.johnbodkinstudio.com.

Elle Brande is an emerging artist and graduate from MICA, where she received a BFA in Ceramics. She has taught ceramics classes for 5 years in Olney, MD.

Sue Carlton has been teaching for over 20 years and is currently an Independent Stampin’ Up! Card Demonstrator. www.susancarlton.stampinup.net.

Jackie Churches has been practicing yoga for 40 years and teaching yoga for 25 years. She teaches Yoga and Pilates classes throughout Anne Arundel and Baltimore Cos.

Irene Colorado has a BA in Animation and currently teaches in Howard Co. She has volunteered for SIGGRAPH, an international computer graphics conference, since 2006.

Compass Rose Theater (formerly LMB Studio) seeks to inspire passion for theater through education in the dramatic arts for all ages.

Rosemary Flood has a BS in Business Administration and Fine Art from Towson University and her MBA from JHU. She is a studio potter at CAC and the founder of Paxis Place Pottery.

Alicia de la Garza has studied piano for 20 years, and has been a musical director for Merely Players Productions and Baltimore Children’s Theatre.

Michael Gellert has sung in over 180 performances in more than 45 productions with the Baltimore Opera Company, and has been the director of the Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus for 17 years.

Josh Gillen received his BA from Susquehanna and an MFA from Towson University, and is the president of Sculptors Incorporated.

Mei Yu Green is a graduate of the National Taiwan Academy of Fine Arts. She is also a certified Zumba and Tai Chi instructor, having studied with several Tai Chi Chuan masters over the past 3 decades.

Nancy Hallock has a BA in Music and Elementary Education and a MS in Education and Child Psychology. She has 40 years of teaching experience in both public and parochial schools.

Suzanne Herbert-Forton is a ceramic and fiber artist working in Baltimore for over 25 years. She has been a teaching artist in the Artist in Education program of the Maryland State Arts Council since 2002.

Gail Higginbotham studied art at the MICA and AACC. She is an award winning artist and a member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters and Oil Pastel Society.

Sarah McCann is a Baltimore based community artist and independent curator. She has taught classes at Wide Angle Youth Media, Baltimore Clayworks, and Youth Dreamers.

Pat Michalski was taught the techniques of screen painting by John Oktavec, grandson of Baltimore screen painting’s founder. She has also studied with other noted screen painters such as Tom Lipka and Dee Herget.

Rick LaRocca is an accomplished singer/guitarist/songwriter with over thirty years teaching and performing experience. Website: www.laroccamusic.com.

Anna Pasqualucci has admired Baltimore screen painting since she was a child. She is now painting her own unique screens and sharing her art and skills with others.

Tim Poly is a former photojournalist and has given over 4,400 presentations as a professional speaker. Website: www.timpoly.com.

Kayleigh Porter is an emerging ceramic artist in Baltimore, Maryland. She recently received her BFA in Ceramics from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2010.

Lynn Schwartz teaches fiction at St. John’s College and The Writer’s Center. In 2008, she was awarded an Individual Artist Award in Fiction from the MD State Arts Council.

Gerry Valerio is a renowned local artist and book designer and was president of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters from 2005 to 2007.

Joe Vitek has been a potter for more than 40 years and has been an artist-in-residence at CAC since 2001.

Voice Coaches provides industry leading voice evaluation, training, and demo development for acting, communication, broadcasting, and speech language pathology.

Melissa Wertheimer earned her MM in Piccolo from Peabody and her BM in Flute from Ithaca College. She enjoys teaching students of all ages and is also a Music History Instructor at JHU’s Peabody at Homewood Program.
