How to register
Chesapeake Arts Center class registration requires full payment at the time of registration.  We accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.  Registration forms can be downloaded in a PDF format from on this webpage and submitted by mail or faxed to our main office (fax: 410.636.9653).   You can also register in person by visiting our office from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday thru Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays.  Early registration is highly recommended; students who register earlier than one week prior to the starting date of a class will receive a $10 tuition discount.   

General Information
If a class or workshop must be cancelled, students will be notified at least 3 business days prior to the first scheduled class or workshop.  If you do not hear from CAC, then your class will be running as scheduled.  We reserve the right to make changes in programs, schedules, and instructors, and to cancel classes.  CAC does not pro-rate classes.  CAC reserves the right to cancel or refuse the registration of a student in a class or workshop if participant is deemed disruptive or interferes with the learning atmosphere and enjoyment of the class/workshop.

Refund Policy
All tuition fees include a non-refundable $10 processing fee.  If you need to withdraw from a class, please do so as soon as possible and please note the CAC refund formula as follows:  100% of the tuition (less the processing fee) will be refunded if the student withdraws prior to the first class, 50% of the tuition (less the processing fee) will be refunded if the student withdraws prior to the second class.  No tuition is refunded after the second class. Full refunds are granted only in the event that a class is cancelled. Membership fees are not refundable.

Chesapeake Arts Center Closings
CAC does not follow the AACPS closings schedule.  Classes will not be held July 1 - 5.  Classes will not be held on major holidays or during extremely inclement weather.  The best policy is always to call the CAC Main Office for information regarding potential closures or class cancellations.

DANCE

Recommended wear for girls: solid-colored leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes, black tap shoes and no necklaces or bracelets. Recommended wear for boys: white shirts, black dance pants and white or black ballet shoes. All long hair must be secured away from your face preferably in a bun. Prices do not include the cost of dance clothing and shoes.

Whether you’re practicing for your first dance at your wedding reception or for a night on the town, students will learn the basics of ballroom and swing to feel confident in any environment.  Each session will include one hour of both Ballroom and Swing dance instruction so students will learn the basic footwork and patterns of both styles with an emphasis on lead and follow techniques.  Students are encouraged to enroll with partners but all students are welcome.  No experience necessary.

ARS 397  Drawing from Life   Age 16+

Undertake further study of drawing with an emphasis on the human form working from a live model for each class, four sessions clothed and four sessions nude.  Instruction will explore proportional formulas used in drawing models with focus on composition and tonal values, created with line, light and shadow.  Supplies included.

Circus Camp   Age 7 – 17

Camp Director: Michael Rosman

Michael Rosman and other professional performers will introduce campers to the circus arts such as juggling, unicycle, plate spinning, magic tricks and clown comedy.  It will be a high-energy program packed with lots of physical activity and fun with whole group activities as well as age group skill sessions.  Each camper receives extra goodies such as t-shirts and juggling kits.  The week concludes with a circus style performance by the campers for family and friends.  Find more information and photos at www.circuscampstars.com. Musical Theatre Camp  Age 5 - 15

Sing. Dance. Act.  Create costumes and stagecraft, taught by Musical Artists Theatre.  Over two weeks students learn songs using healthy vocal technique, develop poise and coordination while practicing choreography, explore acting skills and improvisational games, rehearse scenes, make costumes, and design and paint the set.  On the final day, the campers present a free performance for their family and friends.  Please bring a bagged lunch with food that does not need refrigeration.  No experience necessary.

Murder Mystery Camp  Age 13 - 18

Who-dun-it?  You can!  Learn the theatre tricks of the trade from improvisational professionals.  In this full-day camp format, students will develop their acting skills, learn theatrical effects, learn with improvisational games, all while preparing for a murder mystery show that they will perform at on the last day of camp.  All experience levels welcome.  Please bring a bagged lunch with food that does not need refrigeration.

Make your own “Mirrorages” or “Flashies,” beautiful, sparkling decorations made from mirrors and marbles.  Each participant will receive instruction on cutting and assemblage.  Projects during the week will be making various works of art with mirrors such as flashies, mirror creatures, jewelry, or even neckties.  With this “hands-on approach,” students will be cutting mirrors with confidence.  All tools and supplies included.

Students will create landscape paintings in acrylic on elements found in the environment such as rocks, driftwood, shells, etc.  Some items appear to be sculptures and these will be explored as well. All finished pieces will be mounted or fitted for hanging.  Students will learn various techniques of painting with acrylic on different surfaces, brush effects, and finishing treatments.  All supplies included.

TEACHER BIOS

Richard Ames
Richard has recently started pursuing his love of art as his second career.  Ames is the co-creator of the first mirror “Christmas Tree” with Bob Benson.  Richard is Bob’s next door neighbor and they have collaborated on many projects currently on display at the American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore.

Julia Ball
Born with a passion for the arts, Julia has been drawing and performing for as long as she can remember!  Her comic, “Carl & Ruby,” ran in Christopher Newport University’s newspaper for two years, and her artwork still hangs in the hallway of her high school’s theatre department.  Trained with a M.A. in Education, Julia is excited to take on teaching at CAC.

Juliana Berger
Juliana is an artist and designer who recently moved to the Baltimore/Washington area from Montreal.  She currently works at Shinberg.Levinas Architecture in Bethesda in graphic design and marketing.  Juliana is a graduate of Bennington College, B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies and Concordia University, B.F.A. Design.

Bob Benson
Bob has an extensive arts background.  He was a program director at the Maryland State Arts Council and classical programmer and announcer at WJHU, WBJC, WBAL and WFDS.  These days he spends most of his time with mirrors!  View his work at www.shinyhappythings.com.

Jackie Churches
Jackie teaches yoga and Pilates classes throughout Anne Arundel County.  She has enjoyed the benefits of yoga for 30 years and currently teaches at AACC and at local senior centers, as well as at CAC. 

CJ Crowe
CJ has taught theatre for over 20 years and directed at several area community theatres.  Her writing credits include the Ontario Renaissance Festival and a full-length play, “Real to Reel.”  She is also the owner of Do or Die Interactive Murder Mysteries. 

Narriman Elkins
Narriman is the owner of Passionate About Glass Studio in Baltimore.  Narriman has been creating colorfully expressive works with glass ever since she first fell in love with her grandmother’s glass menagerie as a little girl.  She has displayed and sold her work at the Columbia Festival of the Arts, HGTV, and soon, the Chesapeake Arts Center!  View samples of her work at www.passionateaboutglass.com.

Teresa Fitch
Teresa is the owner and sole proprietor of The Write Stuff Calligraphy and Design Studio with over 25 years experience in calligraphic arts.  She teaches at many locations throughout Maryland and is excited about the opportunity to teach a new group of students at the Chesapeake Arts Center.

Julie began working with ceramics in 1988 and became a certified instructor in 1992.  Julie managed the ceramic studio at Fort Meade Arts & Crafts Center and the Misawa AB Skills Center for many years.  She pursued a degree in Fine Arts at Monterey Peninsula College in 1997, traveled overseas for 4 years with her husband and finished her degree at Anne Arundel Community College.

Alicia de la Garza
Alicia has been musical director for Baltimore Children’s Theatre and for Merely Players productions and has studied piano for over 14 years. 

Chris M. Homberg
Chris has over 15 years of experience in ballroom and social dance instruction.  A former Arthur Murray instructor, choreographer and competitor, Chris has competed in Pro-Am Competitions across the United States and Europe.

Joanne Juskus
Joanne Juskus is an accomplished pianist, vocalist and songwriter who hails from New York, but who now calls the Baltimore area home. Named a "Top 10 Favorite" by The Washington Post, Joanne has appeared at notable venues such as Merriweather Post Pavilion, NYC's Knitting Factory and Bitter End, Bethlehem Musikfest and the Columbia Festival of the Arts.

Tim King
Tim is a professional actor, musician and writer.  He has played guitar in original theatre productions, created guitar accompaniment for “Songs for My Daughter,” and is the “Tim” in the guitar duo, Tim & Tempee.

Jodi Macias
Jodi has over 20 years of training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Pointe & Modern and has taught for the Virginia Performing Arts Academy.  She has extensive experience in children’s theatre choreography and has appeared in over thirty professional theatrical productions.

Jose de la Mar
Jose has performed with and has directed for many theatre companies in the area, including Musical Artists Theatre, Children's Theatre of Annapolis, Merely Players and Do or Die Productions. He teaches acting and directing classes throughout Anne Arundel and Howard County.

Erin Meye
Erin is a muralist, painter, and teacher whose work can be seen throughout the Baltimore/Annapolis area.  She has a degree in graphic design from Maryland Institute College of Art, and has spent the last 30 years painting professionally on a wide variety of subject matter and surfaces.

Michael Patton
Michael has an M.A. in Art Education and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from Maryland Institute College of Art.  He has taught art for 30 years to students of all abilities, ranging from teenagers to adults, from developmentally disabled adults to continuing education students.

Cybele Pomeroy
Cybele is an accomplished playwright, professional actor, writer and director.  She has taught at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, Stageworkz, and the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis.  Stilt walking, fire eating, and mime are among her showmanship skills.

Michael Rosman
For over 20 years, Michael has performed amazing feats of circus comedy all over the world, recently appearing on the David Letterman show.  He is a two-time winner of the Maryland State Individual Artist Award for excellence in the arts.  Learn more about the summer camp program at www.michealrosman.com and www.circuscampstars.com

Karen Rowe
In collaboration with artist Kate Ransohoff, Karen brought the project, “Quilt: Art to Mend the World” to the Chesapeake Arts Center for its first annual Open House last January.  Karen is a spiritual director and retreat leader, artist and musician.  She has spent 35 years as an organizational development consultant and trainer, working primarily in the private sector on diversity, executive coaching and planning.

Nathan Stottlemyer
Nathan is currently the Band Director and Music Dept. Chair at Brooklyn Park Middle School and a percussionist with the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic.  Nathan’s areas of focus include: Middle Eastern, North African, and West African percussion.  Visit www.npstottlemyer.net to learn more.

Stacey Tytler
Stacey graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Dance from SUNY Brockport College in 2003.  For the following 3 years she was a ballet instructor for all levels at Broadway Dance Center.  She has extensive training and performing experience with Draper Center for Dance Education in Rochester, NY and Notes in Motion in NYC.

Joe Vitek
Joe has been a potter for almost 40 years and has been an artist-in-residence at CAC for the past four years.  He is the owner of Bluemist Pottery and has taught pottery since 1970.  His work is available at Bluemist Pottery, Baltimore Clayworks and at CAC.

Monica Weidel-Lubinski
Monica is a mixed-media artist and educator working in paint, collage, assemblage and installation art.  She holds a B.S. in Art Education from Towson University and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Art Education.  Notable commissions include the Crabtown Project and a juried selection to create “Voice of Baltimore,” a collaborative painting project at Artscape in 2006.  Visit www.monicapaints.com to learn more.

Jessica Wilson
Jessica has been a dancer for 15 years studying Vaganova/Russian style ballet and dancing with Experimental Movement Concepts in Baltimore and Dance Explosion in Glen Burnie.  She has also studied at the New York City Dance Alliance with choreographers Joe Lanteri and Mia Michaels.
