The Rope in Your Hands
Chesapeake Arts Center
STUDIO 194 THEATRE

Saturday, Aug 29 at 8:00pm

Pay What You Can - All proceeds will be donated to the Louisiana Red Cross for continuing relief efforts.

A special one-woman show commemorating the resiliency of the human spirit will be performed on the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
This original one-woman show is written and performed by Maryland actress Siobhan O’Loughlin from her interviews with New Orleanians, taken after Katrina hit the Crescent City. Hear the voices of multiple New Orleanians of all ages and races as they cope with life after the hurricane – all performed and evoked by one talented actress.

Fans of Anna Deavere Smith or John Leguizamo’s one-person shows will enjoy this performance, as O’Loughlin assumes the persona of each of the voices as she flows seamlessly between their stories.

Traditional Music Series - Artist TBA
Chesapeake Arts Center & Maryland Center for Traditional Music
STUDIO 194 THEATRE

Saturday, September 19 at 8:00pm
$15 ($12 children)

This fall, CAC continues our collaboration with the Maryland Center for Traditional Music to present a regular monthly concert featuring regional traditional performers.

Featuring musicians, dancers, and singer-songwriters, this series brings these fun traditional art forms to the CAC community. Audiences will be delighted as we put a spotlight on these anchors of our traditional musical culture, young and old, to reunite our traditional music with its audience.
There is a joy and honesty to traditional music and a festive nature to the sound that is delightful. No matter what the unusual name, whether it is called Ceili by the Irish, Fae-Do-Do by the Cajuns or Hootenanny by Appalachians, the meaning is the same – celebration, party, and a good time!

All concerts are performed in CAC’s intimate Studio 194 Theatre offering a rare concert setting to musicians and audiences more accustomed to needing to be in noisy clubs and bars to hear this music.
