Shawn Ashworth

Dr. Shawn Ashworth has been employed with Anne Arundel County Public Schools since 1994, serving in several roles, such as School Counselor, Assistant Principal, Pupil Personnel Worker, Special Assistant for Discipline, Principal at a Comprehensive and Alternative school, and Senior Manager of Discipline & Disproportionality. Currently, Dr. Ashworth works in the Office of Safe and Orderly Schools as a Program Specialist, serving as a Special Assistant; conducting school-based discipline investigations, and supporting schools with creating positive school culture, structures, and professional development for teachers in classroom management, and is a trainer for Kids at Hope. She is an Adjunct Professor at Anne Arundel Community College in the TEACH Institute; providing training to Head Start, and Recreation and Parks staff, as well as for the Education Department. Dr. Ashworth is also recognized as a National /State Certified Hearing Officer-Judge. Many of Shawn’s achievements and accomplishments have been achieved working in the Alternative School setting, and assisting school-based staff with building positive school cultures through implementation of the Kids at Hope philosophy and multi-tiered supports.

Although Dr. Ashworth has held several titles, the title that is most appropriate for her, and she often refers herself as, is a Treasurer Hunter. When it comes to helping students see their best selves; Shawn digs deep beyond the surface of these young people, and searches for their untapped skills and talents. She is intentional and she is purposeful in her hope and belief in young people, No Exceptions! Her work in schools and with teachers is important to Dr. Ashworth. She loves to stay in the trenches, providing support in shifting the mindsets of others, so that ALL students have an opportunity to excel beyond their wildest dreams.

Dr. Ashworth has been an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., for over twenty-five years, and currently serves as President of North Arundel County Alumnae Chapter. She is also an active member of Holy Temple Cathedral Church, where she serves as a Deacon conducting ministry in the Communication, Education, Visitor, Evangelism and Women’s Ministries.

Over the years, she has provided spiritual encouragement to family and friends with her Daily Spiritual Nuggets. In 2014, she authored her book, “Spiritual Nuggets: Prayers for Your Daily Walk with God”. Her work is also featured in the book, “The Worst Times are the Best of Times”, a book authored by Edward Robinson and Lavelle Moton. She also motivates and encourages educators with her Monday Encouragement: “Something to Think About” messages.
