Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC) has received a $24,250 grant from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) to support family and children’s programming as part of CAC’s Michael Stanley MakerSpace. The award comes from the Fund for Anne Arundel, a fund of CFAAC.

This paper is coated in sun-sensitive chemicals that change color when exposed to light. Anything you place on the paper blocks that light. Once fully-exposed, the paper is rinsed and your images are magically fixed on the sheet.

We greatly miss working with our students, our colleagues and our artists. Of course, the health and safety of everyone is very important to us. While we are not yet cleared to open our doors, rest assured that we have been diligently working on a plan that allows us to safely offer arts programming once we get the “okay.” Our C.A.R.E.S. (Connecting the Arts Responsibly Everyday Safely) Plan shares new ways of operating that prioritize the health and safety of employees, patrons, our community, and all those we serve.

Read MoreNick Wilson is the MakerSpace Manager at CAC which means he spends his time designing our shop training programs, writing class curriculum, and setting up partnerships with schools and other nonprofits. Most days you’ll find him hosting open studio or teaching MakerSpace classes and workshops. When he’s not at CAC, however, Nick spends his time working on his boutique electric guitar company, Prophecy Instruments, which features incredible hand-crafted guitars. He’s also a freelance graphic designer, specializing in band logos for heavy and alternative music genres.

Read MoreAs the CAC’s Artistic Director, Nicole Caracia spends her days developing and implementing the artistic vision and focus of the organization. She oversees the Education department and works with the team to provide field-trips, after-school programs, workshops and classes. Additionally, Nicole determines all the "CAC presents" performances that take place at the center, including the gallery exhibits in the Hal Gomer gallery.
When she’s not at the CAC, Nicole is an award-winning photographer and photography teacher, wife and mom to two little girls. Nicole’s diverse portfolio includes bands, landscapes, animals, portraits , models and weddings. And she’s a photography teacher at BPMS and CAC as well.
Read MoreOn Thursday, March 12, more than 60 friends, donors, and supporters gathered in CAC’s MakerSpace to celebrate a milestone event: the dedication and naming of the MakerSpace in memory of Michael Stanley.
Stanley, who passed away in 2019, was the son of Kenneth Stanley, founder of Stanley Engineering in Glen Burnie, who in December 2019 donated $100,000 to Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC). At the event, the new Michael Stanley MakerSpace name and logo was unveiled.

Without color, artists need to be creative in how they add intrigue to their work! What happens if you press hard with your pencil? What happens if you press softly? How can you add texture? (Hint: think lines, shapes and patterns). Be sure to keep adding details until the timer goes off!

Taking care of our patrons is an essential part of our organizational culture. In accordance with those values and following the policies of Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the State of Maryland, the Chesapeake Arts Center is closing the facility starting on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 5:00pm through March 27, 2020. This means all CAC programs, after school programs, classes, rental events, and open studios will be postponed. Please stay tuned for more information on possible makeup classes from the Education Department.
